The bike pictured is a factory Corse Ducati Race bike (996RS) MY98. 1 of 18 made. Steve Martins '98/'99 Ducati Dealer Team Winning machine and World SuperBike contender. The first round of the 2009 Hartwell Club Championships were held at Mount Gambiers Mac Park Circuit in South Australia. We entered the City Edge Motorcycles Ducati 996RS and had a great weekend. The Rider, Sandy Ellul said "The old girl still could win races as it has unbeleivable power and handling. But i think the old boy (me) needs some more track time to get some decent results. I have'nt raced for nearly two years". The next round is in April 25th & 26th at Winton. And with some testing planned we should get some better results than SA.

Round 2 Winton Victoria

Friday practice-The weather played a major part on the weekend as the rain bucketed down for most of the weekend. It was during the second free practise on friday during heavy rain that the City Edge Motorcycles Ducati 996RS developed an electrical fault that wouldnt let the motor rev over 5,000RPM. Eventualy the fault was found, moisture in a diagnostic plug for the Motec Engine Management. Once this was dried off with contact cleaner and treated with a waterproofing spray specificly for electrical conectors, we were up and running again. "We lost a fair bit of track time but i was very happy with the suspension adjustments in spring rates and ride heights to keep the front wheel planted with wide open throttle" Said Sandy Ellul.

Saturday Qualifying and trophy races- Wet again but managed the second row for PreModern and Thunderbikes. We managed some reasonable results in the trophy races 4ths and 5ths but Sunday was to prove a better day for results but ended badly.

Sunday Championship Races- Wet and cold today, in gusty freezing conditions we managed a couple of 2nd place results which pleased the team. Sandy said" the City Edge Motorcycles Ducati 996RS performed very well. I was able to keep with Phill (Harrison) on his Aprillia RSVR 1000 and would have taken over the lead if the races were more than eight laps. But congratullations to Phill as his UK wet experience really showed this weekend." An announcement after the lunch break came over the pa system that due to the very bad weather conditions the last ten races are cancelled. The last race being 600s and over, a very big and hungry field. From the second row Sandy was 2nd into turn one. On lap two an angry GSXR got passed and the three up front were tightly grouped." I was sitting behind the white Suzuki which was holding me up in some corners so i was planning a pass at the gum tree a 180o left hander. As i tipped in i lost the front on a drying track with the Bridgestone wetts strugling for grip. When i stopped sliding i knew id broken my left collar bone. Oh damn i said. That was the last race so we came away with some good points:

Next stop Epworth Richmond Hospital-Came straight from Winton Motor Raceway to the hospital to confirm what i already knew. I had a broken left clavical or collar bone. An opertion was booked for Tuesday and ive had it pinned. I will miss the next round but should be right for round 4 again at Broadford.

We'll things are'nt going as planned, because of a "Staph" infection, four more operations and one more in a weeks time will probably put me out the next Broadford round. Its disappointing but i have to do what it takes to get back on the "RS"
